- Theology of Ministry with Young People
Any time the world has changed, it has been because of teenagers. That was true for both World Wars, the Great Awakening, the hippie movement, and even when 10 or 11 teenagers hung out with Jesus and spread his message to the world. I don’t believe that teenagers are the future of the church. I believe they are the church and that God can do amazing things through them right now. I believe teenagers are hungry for love and acceptance and that there is no greater source than Christ. I believe churches can be a safe haven to learn, share and grow. I believe churches can also be places that are real enough to be aware of the danger of the gospel and how hard it is to preach Christ in a world that will hate you for it.
- How will connecting with me support your ministry?
I think more than anything, I can just listen. My counseling degree, while never paying for itself has been really useful in my ministry. I can listen, I can think, I can be around, and I can be an advocate. I don’t have all the answers. I don’t think I ever will. I don’t know someone else’s church or youth as well as they do. I know what works for me. I know that God can and wants to do amazing things in teenagers lives. I know how important youth workers are. I know sometimes people just need someone to vent to. I can listen, and if I can be a help to someone, I would love to.
